Aerodrome Flight Information Service

(AFIS)

INTRODUCTION

It is the term used to describe the provision of information useful for the safe and efficient conduct of aerodrome traffic.

QUALIFICATION & ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

    •  Higher Secondary School Diploma

    •  Must hold a certificate of medical fitness from a CAA-approved medical examiner.

    •  ICAO Level 4  proficiency English Language

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    •  To assist pilot flying in the vicinity of an aerodrome for the purpose of preventing collision: 

         i.   Between aircraft

         ii.  And between aircraft and obstruction

      To provide information on essential aerodrome conditions.

      To initiate alerting and overdue action.

       Basics Of Navigation 

    •  Aerodromes (ICAO Annex 14)

    •  RTF (Radio Telephony Procedures)

    •  Flight Planning

    •  Rules of the Air (ICAO Annex 2)

    •  Air Traffic Services (ICAO Annex 11)

      Theory of Flight and Aircraft Recognition

    •  Aeronautical Information Service (Annex 15 - AIS)
